District General Hospital Nephrologists
The early renal units in the UK were all in teaching hospitals, and many consultants were clinical academics. But as kidney care expanded kidney units began to be established in district general hospitals. The nephrologists working in those units faced some distinctive challenges not seen in teaching hospitals and they began to work together from the 1990s to exchange information and support each other.
